Riverdale Parent Council Wins Provincial Award!
We are thrilled to announce that the Riverdale Parent Council has been awarded the Alberta "Excellence in Learning Partnerships" Award for 2012! The Excellence in Learning Partnerships Award recognizes partnerships that support parental/community involvement in education to benefit the community and encourage student success.
A representative from the Alberta School Council Association was on hand Thursday, April 26, to present the award to Ms. Madeleine Smith, Chairperson, Riverdale School Council.
"Riverdale Revue"
Sparked by a school council parent's idea for a Christmas performance, and set alight by the efforts of an entire community, the "Riverdale Revue" project is a shining example of organizations and people coming together to benefit student learning. "Riverdale Revue", performed by the students of Riverdale Elementary School, brought to life the history and stories of youth who lived in the Riverdale Community and were students at Riverdale School from 1910 - 1940. The idea of this initiative was to connect student learning, through the arts, to the history of the community in which they live.
The partners in this project were the Riverdale Community League, Riverdale historian and author Alan Shute, the Riverdale Elementary Schoolstudents and staff, artists Margo Lacoursiere and Crystal Hanson, the Riverdale Elementary School Council, and the parents and families of Riverdale Elementary students who volunteered in various capacities to ensure the event was advertised, supported, and successful.

The traditional meaning of the Inukshuk is "you are on the right path", so a fitting tribute to the efforts of everyone involved.
