  • School Philosophy

    School Philosophy

Riverdale School exists to develop and prepare students for a lifelong journey of learning. We offer a collaborative, inclusive, and safe environment for K-6 children to express themselves, learn, and grow into well-rounded students prepared for the adventures of junior high school and beyond.

We believe in academic excellence, paired with sporting activity, and arts, all wrapped up with a focus on environmentalism and learning about the land that surrounds our school. Students at Riverdale School experience smaller class sizes that empower teachers to meet learners where they are at in their educational journey.

Our students leave Riverdale School optimistic and prepared to tackle the next phase in their education both in and outside of the classroom. Fostered through supportive parent-teacher relationships and a safe community filled with folks who look out for one another, Riverdale School sets students up for success in education and life.

Principal Message

Built in 1923, in the heart of Edmonton’s river valley, Riverdale School is nestled in the center of the city’s Riverdale neighbourhood. Filled with character, history, and a lot of spirit, Riverdale School has a rich past of being a community centerpiece. Our school serves students in the Riverdale neighbourhood and is also a choice school for students who live outside of the community boundaries.

Providing education from kindergarten to grade six, our student body is approximately 100 students, but don’t let our small size fool you—we’re one inclusive and welcoming school! We believe in embracing our differences, championing diversity, and creating a safe space to be ourselves. Riverdale School is the best place to learn, grow, and develop into well-rounded, curious, and community-minded learners.

Our staff embody the premise that the very purpose of our school is to help all students feel successful. Riverdale School is a vibrant community where we are fortunate to have high levels of community and parental engagement. We believe that educating our students is a collective responsibility, shared by students and their families, school staff and the entire community. Through a collaborative approach in working together with you as partners, we maximize the potential of all students. We are committed to providing a positive learning environment that fosters and supports high academic and behavioural expectations, capitalizing on the value of strong relationships.

As a school, we use SchoolZone as our primary mode of communication and we encourage our parents to check SchoolZone daily to receive timely information. If you have children here, we are so thankful you have chosen Riverdale School. We look forward to working with them each day.

If you don't have children here yet, Riverdale School is a welcoming environment where we all work together to ensure that all of our students learn at high levels as responsible, productive, and engaged citizens within the global community.

Yours in Partnership,

Joleen Kitt
